China is the world's largest manufacturer of electrical components, wiring devices, and power distribution equipment. Wenzhou (the 'city of electrical switches') and Guangdong are the primary hubs. Proper certifications are mandatory — electrical products carry significant safety implications if not properly certified.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CB (Certification Body) scheme allows mutual acceptance of test reports in 50+ IEC member countries. A CB test report from an accredited lab can be converted to national certifications (UL, CE, VDE, etc.) with minimal additional testing — one report for multiple markets. Request CB test certificates from Chinese electrical suppliers. CB certification from IECEE-member labs (TÜV, SGS, UL, etc.) is the most cost-effective multi-market path.
Safety varies enormously. Products from established factories with active CE/UL/CB certifications and ISO 9001 are generally safe. Generic products without certifications or with counterfeit marks are dangerous — fires and injuries have been traced to uncertified Chinese electrical products. Always: verify certificates are current in certifying body databases, buy from high-volume Alibaba Trade Assurance verified suppliers, never accept self-declarations alone for safety-critical electrical products.
CE mark demonstrates compliance with EU LVD (2014/35/EU) and EMC (2014/30/EU) directives — mandatory for EU/UK. UL (Underwriters Laboratories) certification is required by most US retailers and in commercial/industrial applications in the USA. Many Chinese factories obtain both. Other certifications: RCM (Australia), KC (Korea), PSE (Japan), ISI/BIS (India — mandatory for dozens of electrical product categories including cables, switches, and adapters).
Low-cost power strips are among the most dangerous products. Risks: substandard wiring that overheats, undersized fuses, no thermal protection, incorrect component ratings, counterfeit safety marks. Import only from factories with verifiable CE/UL certifications. Specify: rated current capacity, thermal cutoff protection, earth (grounding) connection, surge protection for relevant markets. Request IEC 60884-compliant test reports. The cheapest power strips often fail basic safety tests — this category is worth spending extra on quality.
